Cornerstone Group Donates 1400 Reflective Vests to MoI

The CEO of the Cornerstone Group, Mr. Alagie Sanyang on Tuesday, 14th March 2023 handed over 1400 reflective vests to the Ministry of Interior.

The gesture was meant to support and empower security institutions under the Ministry; especially The Gambia Police Force Mobile Traffic Unit, in the execution of their functions and duties to the Gambian people.

On behalf of the Minister of Interior, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry, Mr. Assan Tangara, thanked Mr. Sanyang and his team for the timely gesture. He acknowledged that this is one of the most significant donations for them, noting that motor traffic is a critical component in the management and regulation of motor vehicles and pedestrians.

He expressed belief that the use of the vests will reduce the involvement of the traffic police officers in motor accidents, particularly on night duties.

The Permanent Secretary called on other philanthropists to emulate Mr. Sanyang the CEO of Cornerstone Group in complementing government’s efforts.

The Ambassador-at-Large and Honorary Consul of the Republic of Serbia, and Board member of the Cornerstone Group, Pa Omar Faal, said the donation was an expression of their appreciation of the valuable work of the Gambia Police Force and the other security institutions under the Ministry of Interior in maintaining peace and stability in our country.

He said the items have been given as a result of their importance to providing safety to our security officers while performing their duties.

For his part, CEO Alagie Sanyang, said the most important thing one can do for the police is to give them the respect they deserve. “If anybody thinks that the job of the police is not important, go to a country without police and you will see why we need the police’’, he asserted.

He expressed hope that the gesture, though small, will help boost the morale of the police and help them understand that the community appreciates what they do.

Speaking on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Commissioner of the Gambia Police Force, Motor Traffic Unit, Mr. Lamin King Colley, affirmed that the vests will go a long way in enhancing their work, and commended the donors for the kind gesture.
