Defense Counsel L S.Camara Tested PW3’s Testimony During Cross-Examination

 By Nicholas Bass

The defense lead Counsel Lamin S. Camara on Tuesday tested the State’s third witness person’s testimony to ascertain the truth in the treason case before Justice Basiru VP Mahoney of Banjul High Court.

Counsel Lamin S. Camara reminded Mustapha Jabbi, the former alleged coup plotter the day he was set free by the court and affirmed to him that the state placed him under protective custody since the very day he was set free by the court.

He noted that PW3 did not have any idea of what the alleged coup plotters were discussing in a meeting at Kafuta Village and he never disclosed it to the court in his written testimony.

But Mustapha Jabbi strongly said that Sanna Fadera informed him of his intention of being the President of The Republic of the Gambia after his telephone conversation with a Mauritian Marabout who asked him to choose his intention.

Counsel L. S. Camara further asked PW3 to ascertain his allegation against his client on his written statement but he was unable to trace such a statement on his file before the court.

This made Counsel L. S. Camara plead to the court to file PW3’s written statement as an exhibit.

It was granted and filed as exhibit DE5.

But the state witness emphasized that he drove the alleged coup plotters to Kafuta Village where Sanna Fadera told him to sit in the vehicle and wait for them but added that he did not know the purpose of their meeting.

At its peak, the state counsel AM Yusuf pleaded for his witness to be discharged from the dock and asked for an adjournment. The matter was adjourned to the 13th of March 2023 at 2:00 pm for continuation.
