Hamat Bah Secretary General and Party Leader of the National Reconciliation Party (NRP) urged his party members not to contest against President Adama Barrow’s NPP party in the upcoming local government elections
“NRP’s desire to govern the Gambia remained strong and solid ever vowing to support Barrow even he seeks a third term, our desire to form a party for 22 years before Barrow came to the office now 26 to 27 years and it cannot be mortgaged to any individual,” he said
Addressing executive members and party supporters at the party’s congress last week Thursday held in Sare Bojo, in Jimara constituency, Upper River Region, Hamat Bah pleaded with party members to always respect the constitution of the party with regards to the selection of leadership and other positions within the party.
According to him, the party will remain committed to the principle that led to the formation of the party and the right to participate in the democratic process to make sure the country is developed.
The firebrand politician, Mr. Bah also warned party militants to stop political prostitution, saying “the party has a strong relationship with NPP that cannot and will never be compromised for anything.”
He concluded: “However I assured everyone that the NRP will be part of every election in this country. Let the militants stand up firm and reconstitute all the committees and make sure we remain solid in all parts of this. Anytime there is a division being NRP or NPP we risk seeing UDP in office. UDP numbers remain solid but they don’t grow. We should stand united and support the NPP but if we are divided it will become a disaster. He thanked everyone who has joined hands to make sure that this annual convention is a success.”
