The Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission Emanuel Daniel Joof has called on the government to take a holistic approach to make a road map for the implementation of the Truth Reconciliation and Reparation Commission.

Chairman Joof made the call during the end of a three-day international conference on “Accelerating the Effective implementation and Monitoring of the Government White Paper on the TRRC Recommendations held at the Sir Dawda Kairaba International Conference Centre in Bijilo.

Joof also seized the platform to question the government on the delay of remaining the July 22nd Arch to Never Again Memorial Arch, saying the NHRC will ensure monitoring of what the government accepted to be implemented as far as the TRRC recommendations are concerned.

“We are talking about the never again, before we talk about the never again, we must raise awareness and sustain it to let everybody understand what it entails. Therefore, it is important that Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and the NHRC ensure the implementation.”

Joof also called on the government to make a strategy for the prosecution of perpetrators which he said is already classified.

He added: “The government should make a roadmap for the implementation of the TRRC recommendations to ensure that justice is done.”
