Hon Jahumpa suggests replacing Banjul with new city

Honourable Bala Garba Jahumpa, a former diplomat in the government of former president Yahya Jammeh, has suggested replacing the country’s capital city Banjul with a new suitable city within the Greater Banjul Area.

Action man as he is fondly called made the suggestion after declaring his intention to contest the upcoming mayoral election in Banjul under the APRC ticket.

“My intention is for me to contest under the APRC party’s ticket in Banjul for the upcoming mayoral election. I want to inform you that I have written a letter to Honourable Fabakary Tombong Jatta and his executive to tell them my intention for them to select me to contest in Banjul,” he said.

He added: “It’s pathetic in Banjul, it’s not only about floods which are serious and painful. We have 300 people and their families settled at St. Augustine high school. But it is not only that, Banjul City Council doesn’t have a place to dump the waste materials. If people had somewhere they can dump their waste materials, they would dump them in those places, but if they don’t have, they will have no choice other than to dump them in the street which blocks the waterways and breeds mosquitoes. “

“Moreover, BCC and Physical Planning should tell those living in Tobacco Road earlier not to settle there to save their lives as you can see when it rains, crocodiles will start to come out because that place was not meant for people to live. But they have not done their job.

“Banjul should have another city in Brikama because Banjul is too tight for living. Banjul is a business center now. Just see what Nigeria did, they left Lagos and moved to Abuja and we can do the same. So, all these and many other things we the APRC have the idea for Banjul,” he said.
