British Seeks Help in Court for His Snatched Land

One Fatima Gassama, a native of Serrekunda was on Thursday dragged before Muhammed Krubally, the Principal Magistrate of Brusubi Magistrates Court, by one Owen Lloyd Rennells, a British national, who accused her of illegally taking his plot of land.

Owen Lloyd Rennells, a British charity worker disclosed to the Court that he bought a 40 by 80 plot of land on March 14, 2002, at Wulinkama, Brufut in the West Coast Region, which he alleged Fatima Gassama of taking his plot of land illegally.

‘’I was hospitalized for eight years in the United Kingdom, but when I came to the Gambia and visited my land at Wulinkama, I noticed that three families are living on my plot of land’’, he lamented.

“When I met the dwellers on my plot of land, they expressed their guilt’s of buying the plot of land illegally and I forgave them,’’   Owen Loyd Rennalls told the court.

He added: “ My life was threatened through a telephone call by a  caller who claimed to be a police officer of Serrekunda Police station who warned me to stay away from my plot of land’’, Owen exclaimed to the Court.”

He also exhibited Alkalo’s transfer of ownership and receipts of a tax rate for 2018 and 2019 to prove his ownership of the land before the Court.

Fatima Gassama, the accused denied the allegations of Owen Lloyd  Rennells and she also claimed  that ‘’Ousman Sillah, a  cousin of my husband bought this plot of land for  me in 2009 at Wullinkama,” Fatima lamented.’’

Owen Lloyd  Rennells disclosed that he spent D10 million dalasis on this plot of land, but stated that he is looking forward to inviting the Imam of Wullinkama and his neighbors as witnesses before the court. ‘’ The court hearing was adjourned to the 5th September 2022.
