APRC to put up candidates for local gov’t elections

By Adama Makasuba

APRC deputy spokesman has said the party will put up candidates to contest local government and council elections scheduled for next year

“We will put up candidates to contest the elections but we cannot say where and who we will put up to contest so far. We must wait for the reports of the regions because politics is about grassroots by engaging the people,” Dodou Jah said.

Mr Jah’s unveiling came after the party’s Niumi Albreda retreat aimed to discuss shortfalls and the way forwards for the party, amid a pervasive split within the party.

“The retreat was aimed to discuss and look at what had passed from the presidential election to the N National Assembly election and the upcoming local government election. And how the party will re-establish the party and mend the division in the party,” he said.

However, he said they didn’t discuss the issue of former President Yahya Jammeh, adding they committed to reconciling with the Pro-Jammeh APRC group.

So we just “discussed the upcoming local government election at our party level, because we have regional chairpersons to look into ways to ensure we have good results by talking to the people about their needs,” he added.
