Abdou Mbenga, a 42-year-old Senegalese truck driver has been arrested with suspected cannabis at the Yelli Tendaba check point.
A released from DLEAG disclosed read that “A 42 years old Senegalese truck driver (AbdouMbenga) who is said to be a resident of Parsel (Senegal) was apprehended at Yelli Tenda checkpoint – LRR on the 3 June 2022 around 09:30 hours GMT onwards with one (1) big bundle of suspected cannabis sativa,” the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency said.
According to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, the suspected cannabis sativa was hidden inside a compartment of the truck (DK 9009 AA), adding he was en route to Dakar (Senegal) from Binjona (Cassamance).
Meanwhile, it added: “another Senegalese National was also arrested at the Banjul Ferry Terminal on the 1 June 2022 around 14:40 hours GMT onwards. 20 years old Jarsey Kaha was apprehended with thirty-six (36) parcels of suspected cannabis sativa placed in a multi colour nylon bag and concealed in a school bag.”
More so, the “Operatives of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG) took into custody eight suspects apprehended at different locations across the country on charges of being in possession of suspected prohibited and controlled drugs. Five of the suspects are Gambians, two are Senegalese and one is a Sierra Leonean.
“Four of the suspects were arrested at Sukuta while the rest were apprehended at Brusubi, Banjul Ferry Terminal, London Corner and Yelli Tendaba in the Lower River Region (LRR) respectively.
“In Brusubi, a 20 years old Sierra Leonean (Abdou Ceesay) was clutched on the 30 May 2022 around 12:30 hours GMT onwards with eighteen (18) wraps of suspected cannabis sativa. 34 years old Baba Cham, 36 years old Baboucarr Cham and 24 years old Alajie Camara were arrested at Sukuta on 31 May 2022 around 13:30 hours GMT onwards with one (1) medium bundle, twelve (12) parcels, sixty-six (66) wraps, one (1) smoking joint and some quantities of suspected cannabis sativa together with one thousand nine hundred and fifty-five dalasis (D 1955.00) exhibit money.
“26 years old Lamin Cham was also arrested at Sukuta on the 30 May 2022 around 13:45 hours GMT onwards with eight tablets of clonazepam. 48 years old Lamin Drammeh was arrested at London Corner on the 1 June 2022 around 08:50 hours GMT Onwards with five (5) big bundles and twelve (12) parcels of suspected cannabis sativa.”
