Lands Minister calls for peace and unity

Honourable Abba Sanyang, Minister of Lands, Regional Government and Religious Affairs has called for peace and unity, noting that people should not let politics divide them.

He was speaking to local authorities in Soma, Jarra West District as he advised against instigating political conflict,  and to avoid tribalism and always advocate religion tolerant.

On land administration, he cautioned VDCs on meddling in lands issues, stating while appealed to them to stop rejecting projects at their own discretion, noting that the projects are there to complement government’s efforts on national development.

Permanent Secretary, Buba Sanyang underscored that power of authority and possession of stamps should be under the sole custodian of the ‘Alkalolu’ and the Chiefs which should not be delegated to anyone, unless necessary to minimize confusion of power of authority and avoid unauthorized transactions.

He added that: ‘Alkalolu’ should abstain from appending their stamp on the same land for multiple persons as it creates conflict and can lead to a possible double leasing of that property. He warned that any Alikalo caught on such practice should only blame himself for loosing his/her throne. Adding that chiefs should also be cognizant when stamping land documents from “Alkalolu” to minimize land disputes and double documentations.”

As rainy season approaches, Governor of LRR, Lamin Saidykhan cautioned the people against bush fire when clearing their farms. He appealed to the Alkalolu to constantly sensitize their people on dangers of bush fire.

Women representative, Aja Fatou Njie Fofana called for more women empowerment, especially in the area of farming and gardening.

VDC chairman, Kebba Darboe appealed to the Ministry to train the VDCs on their roles, responsibilities as well as limits to ease the work of Alkalolu and the chiefs.

Responding the challenges of the VDC chairman, Hon. Minister assured that trainings will be organized as soon as possible for the VDCs, Alkalolu and the chiefs on their roles and limitations.
