Honourable Madi Ceesay, the re-elected National Assembly member for Serrekunda West Constituency under the ticket of United Democratic Party, has promised to table a law that will help stabilize high cost of basic commodities especially staple food at the National Assembly.

The Journalist-politician thanked the electorates of Serrekunda West and United Democratic Party for his narrow victory, adding he has changed strategy to get him re-elected to the National Assembly.

“I thank the people of Serrekunda for their trust to re-elect me to the National Assembly. I feel so happy for the victory and win for the hope and trust the people of Serrekunda West have in me. If you compare the two, I will say, the election in 2017 was not a tough contest and I would call that a virgin land which was my first contest in the political field. And the strategy I applied in 2017 was different from the strategy I applied in the 2022 election,” he claimed.

“I would say the party won the election because if you are contesting an election under a party, you only get 25 per cent and the party plays to get you 75 per cent. I want to see the living standards of Gambians smooth and this can happen by passing legislative law. I will push a promulgation of laws that will stabilize the prices of basic commodities like rice and oil and other food stuff, so that high cost of living will be addressed,” he said.

“If I say this, the government has to come in and do what we call subsidy in order to stabilize the prices of commodities in the country. That’s why I said we would have a legislature that will stabilize the price of commodities for three years before we reach to a lasting solution,” he added.
