Gam-Leicester Charity Foundation Distributes D10million Worth of Food Aid to Poor and Vulnerable

Gam-Leicester Charity Foundation, UK-based Registered Charity is currently embarking on a massive distribution of food aid amounting to over D10million to the poor and vulnerable people in rural Gambia.

The distribution started on Sunday at Kunting, Kaur and Sabach Sukototo is meant for supporting of different families in the just started Ramadan and prevailing global Covid-19 pandemic that has caused hardship in many families living in rural Gambia.

Speaking to The Voice Newspaper in Kaur, National Coordinator, Gam-Leicester Charity Foundation, Momodou Lamin Jaiteh fondly called Reina disclosed that more than six thousand (6000) 25 kilograms rice, four thousand (4000) drums of 5 litres cooking oil and six hundred (600) bags of sugar has been distributed throughout the country, adding that the gesture is meant to provide food relief to thousands of families across rural Gambia and in the Kombos.

According to him, this is not the first time the Gam-Leicester Charity Foundation has embarked on such missions across the country, noting that the foundation has been supporting families in the country for the past twenty (20) years especially during the Holy Month of Ramadan and Tobaski.

“We are currently doing the distribution of this food aid to the poor and vulnerable people of the rural Gambia. In Kaur, we will be distributing 1300 bags of 25kg rice, 600 bags of sugar and 1300 drums of 5 liters cooking oil among forty (40) villages spreading in Lower and Upper Saloum districts of Central River Region (CRR),” Momodou Lamin Jaiteh disclosed.

He added: “We believe this food aid will help many families who are struggling on their daily survival especially that the Ramadan just started. Similar distribution of rice, sugar and cooking oil were distributed in Kunting in Niani District and Sabach Sanjal in Sabach Sanjal District in Lower River Region (LRR).”

According to him, the foundation has also cumulatively distributed over 2028 bags of 25kg rice, 34 bags of rice and 2028 drums of 5litres cooking oil among communities surrounding Sabach Sukototo in Sabach Sanjal and Kunting in Niani district among other places in the country.

Adding that this distribution will boast the food supply of many poor and vulnerable families across the country, thus helping them to save monies for families that could be spend in the education of their children.

Gam-Leicester Charity Foundation, National Coordinator continued that the foundation places high premium on the lives and livelihoods of the people of the Gambia, noting that this is why this year’s distribution has been witnessed by the Charitable Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, Ahmed Yunus who flew all the ways from UK to The Gambia.

“This year’s distribution is very unique in the sense that it has been the first time the CEO of Gam-Leicester, Ahmed Yunus, come all the way from UK to witness the distribution. Mr. Yunus has been very supportive and generous to the people of The Gambia especially the poor and vulnerable people,” Gam-Leicester National Coordinator revealed.
