Teenager arrested with drugs at Kalaji checkpoint

A 17-year-old Senegalese boy has been arrested and detained with suspected cannabis at Kalaji checkpoint.

The Drug Law Enforcement Agency said a “17 years old Abdoulie Joof of Jurubel, Senegal was arrested on the 1st April 2022 around 07:50 AM onwards at Kalaji checkpoint with ten (10) big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa. The Senegalese teenager boarded a commercial vehicle BJL 6195 W heading towards Brikama from Jarra Soma.

“He is presently under custody and investigations continue. As an Alleged Child Offender (ACO), his matter will be forwarded to the Agency’s Gender, Children and Human Rights unit for further processing and investigations.”

A “32 years old Bubacarr Barry who is also a Senegalese National residing at Old Yundum was apprehended on the 31st March 2022 around 08:00 am onwards with two (2) big bundle of suspected cannabis sativa at Mandinaba Police Checkpoint. He is also in custody while further investigations continue personnel of The Gambia Police Force recovered seventeen (17) big bundles of suspected cannabis in Bakau on the 23rd March 2022 around 03:00 am onwards.

“The Person(s) of Interest (POI) in the matter are currently at large and the matter is being further investigated to trace them and bring them to book. 24 years old Ansumana Sanyang of Kuloro Village was arrested on the 29th March 2022 around 06:00 am onwards with four (4) big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa at Bullock Police checkpoint. 22 years old Abdou Qadir Jallow, a Conakry Guinean National was apprehended on the 30th March 2022 around 03:20 am onwards with four (4) big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa at Bullock Police checkpoint,” the agency added.

Also, a “38-year-old Alagie Senghore and 29 years old Binta Jarju were apprehended on the 1st April 2022 around 11:12 hours GMT onwards with five (5) big bundles, eight parcels and eighty-eight (88) wraps of suspected cannabis sativa.  Seized at Abuko, the said suspected prohibited drugs were wrapped with brown and white papers and concealed in an empty bag of rice. They are currently in custody as further investigations continue,” the Drug Law Enforcement Agency reported.
