Scarcity of flours has hit the market again in the past few days and this is forcing many bakers out of production and the scarcity is now the latest complaint from the bakers across the Greater Banjul Area.

Meanwhile, The Gambia was hit by shortage of bread end of last year after flour got scarce in the market which prompted the government to stepped-in to address the situation.

Speaking to The Voice, Mamadou Saliou Bah, a baker said: “there is no flour in the market for the past two days which has affected our business because I cannot work without flour.”

“We also want to make bread and sell to the people because this is what most Gambians love to eat in the morning despite us not making much profit. However, we have no choice if there is no flour to make these breads,” he added.

Also, Edrisa Colley, a customer said he struggled to bread to buy ended up buying something else for food.

“I don’t know whether their plan is to increase the price of the bread but the government should look into this matter and control the price if not this country is just lacking behind,” he said.

“Unidentified source said lacks of flour has affected their business for the past two days because many of their customers want bread but no bread to sell to them. It is not our intention to sit like this without anything to sell to the customers, but scarcity of flours in the market is our challenge as of now,” he added.

Abdourahman Jallow, a shopkeeper, called on the government to step in and address the situation at hand once and for all.
