Barrow says rural Gambia neglected for 50 years

The Gambian President, His Excellency Adama Barrow has reaffirmed his government commitment to develop the country, as he said rural Gambians had been neglected for 50 years by his predecessors

Speaking at Niamina Dankunku and Dongoroba in Jarra East, President Barrow highlighted his administration’s achievements, building roads and other infrastructure around the country.

For over 50 years Gambians have been paying taxes yet most of the countryside remains undeveloped,” he said, while adding that “the critic will tell the people that the infrastructure he is championing is from their tax revenue.”

He added: “Were people not paying taxes before?”But noting that, as a public servant he will continue to do his work without distraction.

Among audience Musa Darboe, commended the government for its agriculture policy saying that the policy provides him hope to continue his agricultural production.

President Barrow proceeded with meetings in Dankunku and Dongoroba, where he presented ambulances and promised the delivery of tractors and other farming implements in few weeks. He also talked about the planned building of 13 rest areas and the deployment of ambulances along the major highways.

Meanwhile, President Adama Barrow has called for unity among Gambians in order to develop the country, saying that the country can only be developed when they have peace and unity among the people.

“Only unity will serve our common good. Let’s come together and move this country forward,” He said.

Earlier in the day, President Barrow laid the foundation stone for the expansion of the School for Community Health Nursing in Mansakonko. The expansion will increase the number of student intakes and build dormitories for accommodation.

President Barrow also visited the OMVG hydroelectricity substation in Soma due to be inaugurated next month. He proceeded to Jali, Kiang West, where he also laid the foundation stone for a health centre.

President Barrow assured the people of his commitment to serve their interest, highlighting that the Kiang electrification and roads project is his government’s determination to leave no community behind in terms infrastructural development.
