Gidda Women Layout Problems Before Presidential Aspirant

By Mustapha Jarju

The women of Brikama Gidda have laid out their community’s problems before Essa Faal as they assured their support for his presidency in 4th December election.

“We are calling on Essa to stand we are behind him today and tomorrow both men and women, the community called on Essa as he sees the condition of the road in the community and water shortage a major challenge. We prayed for Essa to rule us as president because he has sympathy, we know that and we have seen that in him,” they said.

Sirra Sanneh, a women leader said: “the only main problem they have in Gidda is stagnant water during rainy season and the poor road network that connect the community,” adding “during rainy season any unlucky pregnant woman could die on her way (when going to hospital) when giving birth on the way.

“Likewise, if you have a sick person and unlucky, too, such person could die on the road while rushing him or her to the hospital, because vehicles cannot access the road,” she stressed.

According to her, recently if you want to go to Gidda Forest from Brikama vehicle used to divert from the community.

“If Essa help us to construct our road here, I have no doubt both young and old ones will rally behind him in the whole community of Gidda. We have never seen any presidential candidate who has come to Gidda, Essa is the first person and we are in support of him,” she declared their support for him.

They blamed the nation’s leaderships of neglecting them, as they said President Adama Barrow has never visited or walk to Gidda “to see our condition in this community, but we have seen Essa coming through the Gidda route.”

“We have hope in him, we hope if we give our vote to Mr. Faal, he will ease the burden on us as the problem of Gidda is a national problem, there is no community in Brikama which is bigger than Gidda,” she emphasised.

Therefore, they call on Essa to consider their plight when he wins the election and “one thing I will tell Gambians is, now we should open our eyes and we should stop giving our votes to poor people and illiterates. Essa Faal is educated, gentle, he knows the world and not a poor person, when it comes to national issues, he first sees the country before any other thing,” they said.
