Dry Land Forest Management Project enhances Effective Sustainable Land Management

Community based sustainable Dryland Forest Management Project Monday organised a sustainable land management  meeting for its North Bank Region chapter.

The daylong meeting held in Kerewan was used to review the last monitoring visit report and follow up on the recommendations of the dryland forest management project

Among provided opportunity for agriculture and natural resource (ANR) sectors to present on projects and programs within the region.The presentation was follow by 3 days Field Monitoring visit to various project sites by partners to assess rate of implementation and its impact on lives and livelihood.

Deputy Governor Musa Kanteh disclosed that there is need for effective management of forest as he called on the committee to be more proactive and ensure compliance.

He described the recent windstorm at the region,  as wakeup call while stressed that all hands have to be on the table to promote restoration and conservation of forest cover.

He emphasized on the need for enforcement of anti bushfire and illegal logging by forestry officials and district tribunal.
Alkali Jarjusey Program Officer Natural Consulting Firm NACO thanked partners for their support to FAO 5 years project and noted that monitoring and planning of projects related to environmental management and preservation are key to the attainment of sustainable land use.

He therefore called  for inclusion of farmers organisations into sustainable land committee, as it would promote community participation on the management of biodiversity and eco restoration practices.

As implementing partner of Community Based Sustainable Dryland Forest Management Project,  NACO rolled out Community Based Forest Enterprise with Community Forest in Sabach Sanjal with focus on Tree Nursery Management, Bee Keeping techniques and harvesting which has commenced.
