Karpowership has donated 60 rams to dozens of underprivileged families to help them fulfill their Islamic obligation as regarding the celebration of Eid-ul-Adhaa locally knows as ‘Tobaski.’
The Turkish-owned energy company support comes amid a steeple prices on rams – coupled with third wave of coronavirus ripping apart businesses.
Since 2018, Karpowership has so far spent millions of dalasis in charity aid to Gambians in areas like health, education and among other keys.
Speaking at the programme held at Karpowership Headquaters in Fajara, Sheriff Bojang Snr, one of its communication specialists, said one key difference of Karpowership from other companies is its philosophy of ‘giving back to communities.’
“Karpowership doesn’t only come to this country just to supply electricity to the nation,” he said.
He added:”Karpowership is proud to say that despite we are not that much very big, but our interventions to supporting people are gigantic.”
Highlighting on keys interventions made by Karpowership Company in the country, he said “Karpowership had spent D6 million on ventilators to support The Gambia government. Also, before, Karpowership had supported Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital with more than D1 million.”
Meanwhile, he continued that the company supported Brikama Library to renovated and expanded its offices at a tune of D1 million.
Representing Karpowership Country Manager, Fatoumatta Darboe, an Administrative Officer described the humanitarian aid ahead of the eid as “fulfilling social cooperate responsibility to distribute sheep to needy families.”
“We are glad and grateful for the opportunity to contribute our quota towards the solution to the power supply in The Gambia, and as a result towards the development of the country, for no country can develop without electricity,” Ms Darboe said.
She reassured Karpowership’s commitment to developing Gambian communities saying even “without operation in The Gambia (that) the company will continue to engage in social responsibility projects in different sectors of The Gambian economy.”
“As a strategic partner, Karpowership is committed to Gambians development and (it) will continue to provide all Gambians sustainable, reliable and affordable electricity for many more years to come,” she said.
Imam of Lamin Daranka, Ansumana Naso, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, prayed and hailed the donor company for the help and urged other companies to emulate Karpowership’s effort.
