Letter of Condolence to the Family of the Late Veteran Imam of Sukuta, His Eminence, Alhaji Ismaila Beye

Majmouatou Rawdatul Majaalis under the leadership of Alhaji Baba Abubakar Drammeh learnt on Tuesday, 7 July 2021 with a great sense of loss the death of Alhaji Ismaila Beye, the patriarch of the Beye Kunda clan in both The Gambia and Senegal and the veteran Imam of Sukuta.

Imam Ismaila Beye defies any form of characterization owing to his longevity, piety, magnanimity and righteousness. Not only was he an exemplary father and uncle to his issues, nephews and nieces, he was also a spiritual father to the population of Sukuta, other Kombo communities and the entire Gambian nation.

His Eminence, Imam Ismaila Beye, was a paragon of Islamic virtue and values. He tutored hundreds of students from the entire Senegambia region and beyond. He also served as an indispensable spiritual and religious guide to hosts of Muslim scholars. His longevity as Imam of the Grand Mosque of Sukuta has left an indelible imprint in the minds and souls of the Sukuta community and other communities of the West Coast Region.

Owing to his unrivalled religious stature in the Gambian Muslim community, he was constantly approached for decades by Gambians of all walks of life for counselling and guidance.

Majmouatu Rawdatul Majaalis has been no exception to this rule when it approached the eminent Imam for his moral support.

Majmouatu Rawdatul Majaalis thus implores Allah the Almighty to make Paradise  Imam Ismaila Beye’s final abode, include him among the righteous Muslims who will receive Prophet Muhammad’s (pbuh) intercession in the Hereafter and grant his family the fortitude and resilience to withstand the loss of their beloved father, grandfather and uncle.

The entire Gambian nation was tried by a rainstorm that left in its wake a trail of destruction of monumental proportion. Scores of casualties have been reported, several homes destroyed and high-voltage lines affected by fallen trees leading to electricity outage and water supply shortage in many parts of the country.

According to a statement by the Executive Director of the National Disaster Management Agency, over 3,000 people have been affected, 1,500 persons displaced and 10 persons killed so far.

Given the scale of the disaster and the fact that its impact had been felt nationwide, Majmouatou Rawdatul Majaalis hereby expresses its grief and pain to the people directly affected in particular and to the people of The Gambia in general.

At this moment of general public anguish as a result of a large scale natural disaster, Rawdat appeals to the sense of solidarity of all Gambians and calls upon every person capable of providing assistance in both cash and kind to do so for the immediate relief of the victims.

Rawdat prays that Allah the Almighty provide instant relief to the victims, grant them the fortitude and resilience that would enable them to recover immediately from the disaster’s impact and make the sorrowful incident a blessing in disguise for the victims and people of The Gambia. May Allah the omnipotent protect us from such a calamity forever and ever.
