Dozens of single mothers’ complete life skills training

At least thirty-five [35] single mothers across the country have completed months of skills training programme held in Senegambia and sponsored by ‘Single Mothers.’

Fatoumata Jammeh Jeng, CEO and Founder of Single Mothers Scheme commended the graduated single mother for their dedication and commitment as well as been vibrant during the period of their training.

“You are empowered to speak and to act and you are not afraid to take stand, you sacrificed few hours of your time to make sure you have a stake in society,” she said.

She urged them to be bold enough to stand in front of the world and share their stories not to be, but to let other know there is light at the end of the tunnels. You just need to reach, as she congratulated all the grandaunts and staffs and teachers who work incredibly hard and invest so deeply in each of the students.

Meanwhile, Oumie Njie, a graduate, who spoke on behalf of her colleagues, thanked the CEO for giving them what she called a great opportunity to build their skills in different areas of their choice and for making them feel at home during the process of the training.

“As from today, we will be able to satisfy our financial needs and the needs of our children through our own labour. We will continue to remember you all for your time and tireless efforts you employed to transform our lives forever,” she said.

According to officials, the project is developed to assist unemployed single mothers in The Gambia, to help them acquire life Skills and obtain employment. It also acknowledges the number of children living in poverty that resides in single mother families and societal problems that these mothers exhibit. Such mothers often face, for example, problems of poverty, low self-esteem and lack of confidence, isolation and depression, social stigma and lack of social support.
