‘I Believe to Bring about a Change in System’ – NPP spokesperson

By Buba Gagigo

Lamin Queen Jammeh, spokesman for the National People’s Party (NPP) has said he believe to bring about changed as he granted an interview to Kerr Fatou since his appointment.

The former Governor of North Bank Region said: “there will still be a leader [the new leader when Barrow is defeated. Certainly, that is what I will follow.”
“Because of my belief, in what I believe in, that is why I am following the leader. I believe to bring about a change in system that could be internally motivated or externally influenced. Internally motivated changes are those that are brought about by members from him. My contribution is that I’m going to be part of those from him. If I see the government not properly functioning, as far as the democratic environment can allow it, I honestly talk to you and try to influence things from him,” he said.

He said he based his comment on his belief that leaders are divinely brought and designed, and if a group of people assume leadership, what is naturally acceptable is to accept that their leadership is the will of God, and follow them until another is chosen by God.

He acknowledged that it is the role human beings play in making a leader.

He has a reputation of switching allegiance to a sitting president.  Prior to the 1987 elections when Sir Dawda Jawara was President and leader of the People’s Progressive Party [PPP], Lamin was a supporter of the National Convention Party [NCP]

But he switched to the PPP after the elections. In 1994 after the military took over the PPP government, he switched to the military party (then AFPRC currently APRC). And in 2016, after the defeat of the APRC government by the Coalition led by Adama Barrow, he switched allegiance to President Barrow.
