Passengers hospitalised after car summersaulted

A car crash in Kartong has left passengers hospitalised with none-life threatening injuries after their car summersaulted as a stray animal crossed the road.

Eye witnesses said the car was on a high speed and that they believed the driver lost control of the stand break. The driver is said to be detained by the police.

“Earlier today at the outskirts of the southern border Kartong, a loose control by incompetent driver resulted to a crash leaving passengers on board with series of bruises,” Dawda Bah, an official of Save Life Gambia said, adding “the accident occurred earlier today due to poor driving skills.”

“The driver who was driving with high speed failed to hit the brakes on a crossing cow and instead swerve the cow and lost control of the stirring wheel which caused the car falling over the sides of the highway,” Mr Bah added.

While passengers on board were sent to hospital to receive some treatment, the driver is currently under police custody, he said.

He called for action be taken against stray animals like cows, goats, sheep, pig and others domestic animals, adding despite that the animals also having rights to roam.

Pleading to the government that the people of Kombo South need space to walk, “we want speed bumps and zebra crossing in front of all schools and busy crossing points sited along this highway. We want it now because the more you delay the increase of crashes we will continue to experience, please give us same attention you giving to Covid-19?” he appealed.
