Group calls for action against road accident

Save Life Gambia works, a group fighting road accidents, has called for concerted action against road accidents claiming lives daily ‘on our roads.’

The group pointed out Brufut -Kartong highway as received more accidents, resulting in loss of many lives.

Speaking to The Voice Dawda Bah said: “the rate of road traffic accidents in West Coast Region and some other parts of the country is on the dominance, and has reached an alarming height. This need urgent action and radical measures in place to check down the major factors that are causing this unpleasant development. Kombo south in particular, many of its vibrant and economically active population are perishing through the roads leaving every native with huge frustrations of being the next victim.”

“The high rate of road accident in West Coast Region is as a result of standard highways/roads in places – namely Brufut-Kartong highway, Brikama-Gunjur highway, Brikama-Sanyang highway among many other roads. These are among major roads that see the greatest number of fatal accidents,” he stated.

He noted that it is gradually becoming a not-so-alarming news item for the government until it involves a person of great repute and high social standing.

Giving example, he said the government forgot too soon the deadly road incident that occurred between Brufut and Tanji road in 2016. This deadly incident, he said, left the natives of the surrounding villages with raining tears, huge frustrations and financial burden.

This has been forgotten, as the government through the lead agency is going on with life as if everything is fine, while hundreds continue to die leaving so many assets destroyed, he said.
