Stone Circles of Senegambia Trail, tour operator campaigns for Senegambia Tourist Passport

The president of L’Aventure Culturelle et Sportive S.A.S (ACS) – a French-Senegal based tour operator has called on government of The Gambia through the Ministry of Tourism and Culture to have (create) a Senegambia Cultural Passport which will enable visitors/tourists to move or use through the Senegambia Trail project called Stone Circles of Senegambia Trail without any hindrances at the two countries’ borders.

L’Aventure Culturelle et Sportive S.A.S is a Senegal based tour operator that ready to bring French tourists to destination Gambia, on a new trail called Stone Circles of Senegambia Trail.

Stone Circles of Senegambia Trail mainly is to bring interested tourists from French countries among other places to the destination Gambia to visit the Kerr Batch and Wassu Stones Circle sites located in Nianija and Niani, respectively, in Central River Region (CRR) The Gambia. And also, stones circle sites in Senegal.

Speaking to Graziano Tevere, President of ACS during his team recent visit to The Gambia, a trip facilitated by the Minister of Tourism and Culture, Honorable Hamat NK Bah, he disclosed that it is their aim to valorize cultural heritage in destination Gambia as they are already doing in Senegal.

With this new project, he said it is the aim of L’Aventure Culturelle et Sportive S.A.S “to make the Stones Circle sites – Wassu and Kerr Batch closer to people through the Stone Circles of Senegambia Trail,” taking into consideration the importance of regional tourism to the destination.

The project already have the blessings of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture and also “I’m happy for the good supports receiving from the director of museum in Senegal and the support of the director general of NCAC in The Gambia as we are all working in contact to promote the Stones Circle of the two countries.”

About the Stones Circle, he said there are lots of hidden histories in the stones circle and “I have come with a team that are really interested in stones circle which includes historians, archaeologists, and surveyor among other experts.”

The ACS president emphasized that having a Senegambia Cultural Passport will enable visitors on Stone Circles of Senegambia Trail to move to and from Senegal and Gambia without any encumbrances.

The sightseeing tour of the Gambia stones circle sites were conducted by the director general of the National Centre for Arts and Culture (NCAC) joined by Gambia Tourism Board (GTBoard), Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism and Culture (MoTC), officials of the tour operator, L’Aventure Culturelle et Sportive S.A.S. team, from Senegal, led by Gaziano Tevere, president of ACS among others.

The Gambia stones circle sites were among the 851 properties from 144 different countries listed and noted as World Heritage Sites in November 2007 and it remains part of the legal territory of the state where in the site are locates and UNESCO considers it in the interest of the international community to preserve each site.
