Gambia Democratic Congress leader, Mamma Kandeh has renewed his call on President Barrow-led government to explain its reason for planning to move the ECOMIC forces in The Gambia to Police Mission.

Speaking during GDC’s congress held Farafenni in North Bank Region,  Mr Kandeh said: “we need to know the reasons because we have not seen any problem in the Gambia so far. They are the ones that have the knowledge and think that there is problem. So let them tell us the problems that we are facing which made them to take a decision of planning to bring in police mission and live out our own police forces.”

He went further “Let the government re-think of their decision because it will never happen in this country. I therefore challenge journalists to go and do their investigation on the reasons why the government wants to bring in police mission in the country because Gambians want to know the reason behind the police mission in the country. I also challenge the NAM’s in the parliamentary level for them to put a question to the Ministry of Interior to tell us why that should happen in the country and what issue is going on in the country that requires them to plan such forces in the country,” he added.

He said despite the presence of the ECOMIC soldiers in the country that “there is still lack of security in the country. “Things that are happening in the country now have never happened in the country before.”

Gambians don’t need Anglophone police forces in the country because the country has enough police forces and many other citizens that can fulfill all those responsibilities that are to be fulfilled by the Anglophone forces, he said.
