Senegalese authorities accused of disrespecting ISRT protocol

Senegalese authorities have been accused of perpetual disrespect of the Inter-State Road Transit Protocol (ISRT) between The Gambia and Senegal.

The accusation was made by the deputy customs manager Farafenne border post,Yusufa B. Cham during the visit of the National Assembly members on regional and integration committee to the border on Tuesday.

Yusufa B. Cham told the committee members who is currently on countrywide tour of the border post that “the Senegal is our sister country but are not respecting the Inter State Road Transit (ISRT) protocol of The Gambia.”

He said there is need for consultation among the two countries to deal with the problems, as thing cannot continue like this.

He described the committee’s visit as significant and pave way   for effective understanding for members to know the problems they always encounter.

According to him, one among their problem is documentations that is the name on insurance, vehicle papers and licence calling for more sensitization because their Senegalese counterparts make problem out of it more.

“It is a major problem we are facing and we have reported the issue on different occasions and the conditions are not favourable, because when any of this vehicles going into Senegal they will be charge 1000 CFA and for a vehicle that loaded goods is 15000 CFA.

He stated that on their own part, they always clear all the vehicles within short period to facilitate free movement of trades.

Honorable Omar Ceesay assured them of better results as they will give feed back to the National Assembly members about their findings.
