Sheikh Faal, Press Secretary for Gambia Action Party (GAP), has called for the prosecution of former president Yahya Jammeh who now lives in Equatorial Guinea since his defeat in 2016 presidential election.

President “Yahya Jammeh should face the law on charges against him and let the law determine. It is now Jammeh has been accused and only the court can determine his faith. He was just human and as we speak now some of the people who aided him in most crimes are walking freely. Jammeh was in helm of affairs of the country for 22 years, many atrocities had occurred and you cannot count the good and bad things he did during his regime,” Mr Faal told The Voice in an exclusive interview.

He added: “Everyone deserves forgiveness depending on the crime committed and it is left to the Gambian people whether he should be let free and those crimes committed against the likes of Solo Sandeng, Deyda Hydara should not have happen but is unfortunate that it occurred and I condemned it and believe the families deserve justice for the lost and suffering they endured.”

He said the impasse should be a lesson to them because when Jammeh was in power, it is difficult to associate yourself to other political party as of now, we all know that globally the beauty of democracy is access to freedom and join any part you deem fit.

‘’Regarding the testimony of Solo’s daughter, Fatou Sandeng who testified at TRRC 29 December explained the ordeal that her father went through in the hands of the former regime, human being doesn’t deserve to be tortured brutally, we hope that the law will take action for justice to be served,” he said.
