President Barrow suspends tour over death of driver

The Gambian leader Adama Barrow has suspended his today’s tour following the death of one of his drivers who had battled with a short illness.

“His Excellency, Adama Barrow and the entire staff of the State House regret to announce the death of a friend and co-worker, Jerreh Fatty. Until the time of his death, Jerreh was one of the drivers to the President.

“Due to the sad situation, all the Meet the People meetings scheduled for today at Bullock and Kuloro have been postponed till further notice,” the presidency said.

The dead will be laid to rest today, Wednesday, 30th December 2020 at his residence in Sukuta Nema.

President Barrow sent his condolences through his Facebook page: “I have received devastating news that my friend and colleague, Jerreh Fatty passed away. My sincere and heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, co-workers and the entire Fatty Family in Kiang and Sukuta Nema.

“Jerreh would be remembered for his role in the political struggles to advance democracy in the country. He died in active service after an illness. Jerreh Fatty was admired by many because of his dedication and gentle personality.”

“I pray that Allah grant his soul with mercy and eternal peace,” he prayed.

The deceased was survived by three wives and children,” he added.
