Driver drags to court

Abdoulie Loum, a taxi driver has been dragged to court over an alleged reckless driving causing damage on vehicle. He was recently arraigned before Magistrate Sillah of the Kanifing Court.

A prosecution eye witness who is also a driver got involved in an accident with the accused person. He told the court that “on the 24 of September, 2020, I was from Coastal road going to Banjul. I was driving a Truck while the accused was driving a taxi. When I reached Old Jeshwang fuel station, I saw one Taxi on the slow traffic lane, while I was at the fast traffic lane.”

He went on that the alleged reckless driver “crossed from his lane to the lane I was. I tried to break, I tried my level best to avoid him, but unfortunately, I hit the back of his car.”

He added: “Then I get off my vehicle, and saw that, my vehicle was damaged at the front, and the back of his vehicles was also damaged. I went to him, and asked him what happened, and he told me, he did see me when I was coming.

“I told him that, before you come to the fast traffic lane, you have to check whether a vehicle is approaching or not. I then asked him whether he has the number of any traffic police officer around this area (the scene of accident). We later went to the Mobile Police headquarters where we met one Mendy. We went with Mendy, and when we reached the scene of the accident, Mendy made his measurement.’’

He later noted that, Mendy told them to bring both cars to the Mobile Police Headquarters, which they did. They were also asked and they both explained.

The matter was adjourned to the 16th of November, 2020, for cross-examination of the witness.
