Yankuba Colley Blames Barrow’s Gov’t for Recent Back-way Disaster

“I Yankuba Colley, senior executive member of the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) and former Mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) squarely blamed the government of President Adama Barrow for been responsible for the deadly sea tragedy that occurred off coast of Mauritania.”

At least six three (63) young Gambians including thirteen (13) Senegalese died on recently  in Mauritanian city of Noudibou when their boat capsized.

The incident occurred when over one hundred and fifty (150) Gambian youths set-off from the coastal town of Barra, 7km away from Banjul were on their way to Europe through illegal journeys dubbed ‘Back-Way’ locally.

However, few days after they took-off from Barra their boat ran out-off fuel and food resulting to a national disaster that took away six three (63) precious lives. “What happened recently is a national disaster that touches every fibre of Gambian society. It is very sad that this country have to loose such a huge number of lives at a go,” Colley told The Voice on Sunday.

According to him, his party under the leadership of Fabakary Tombong Jatta felt the need to pay homage to the affected communities of Barra, Essau and Medina Serign Mass in Lower Nuimi District of the country in a bid to pay their condolences to the bereaved families.

He stressed that The Gambia Government must be held accountable for the lost suffered for failing to put the agenda of the youths in the forefront of its development priorities.

He added that the tragic loss of lives is as a result of the lack of opportunities available to Gambian youths.

Colley pointed out that, when ex-President Yahya Jammeh challenge the UN and held the World body responsible for the countless loss of lives in the Mediterranean Sea, critics said all such of things but today is visibly clear that something need to be done to arrest the situation. “How comes is only Africans who are dying,” he frowned.
