Shake-Up At Councils As LGSC Moves Embattled Ex-BAC CEO, Others

The Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) has transferred the embattled former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Brikama Area Council (BAC) Modou Jonga to the Banjul City Council (BCC), The Voice can report.

CEO Jonga has been battling allegations of incompetence and abuse of office.

The BAC sometime last year passed a resolution, recommending the immediate removal of Mr. Jonga as CEO, relying on Section 45 of the Local Government Act (2002).

The BAC passed the resolution on allegations of willful negligence and dereliction of duty against Jonga which, according to the council, resulted in the loss of thousands of Dalasi in daily market duty collections between October 21 and 25, 2023.

However, CEO Modou Jonga denied the accusations, describing them as baseless, inaccurate, and misrepresentation of facts.

Meanwhile, former BAC finance director Alagie Jeng has been transferred to the Mansakonko Area Council while Seedy Touray; the CEO of Mansakonko Area Council, has been transferred to BAC.

In another development, Sheriff Njie, who served as deputy finance director at KMC, has been appointed Acting Finance Director at the BCC while the former CEO of BCC Mustapha Batchilly has been moved to Mansakonko Area Council.
