The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) has joined rest of the world to celebrate the role of teachers in society – as the global nations celebrate ‘World Teachers’ Day’.

United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1994, penned October 5 to remember teachers across the World to celebrate their contributions as regard teaching community in educating children and society at large.

“The issue of teacher leadership in crisis response is very critical especially during this Covid-19 pandemic. In The Gambia for example, teachers have supported and provided lessons for pupils virtually through radio, television and WhatsApp groups, when schools remain closed to mitigate loss of contact hours and ensure continuity of learning.

“The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education The Gambia acknowledge that important role and many others our teachers continue to play in shaping the future of education in this country,” MoBSE said.

“We will therefore dedicate this month in celebrating our teachers who have contributed differently in the sector.”
