Momodou MC Cham Jnr, National Youth President of Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) has said more than two thousand (2000) members of Barrow for Five Years and supporters have switched allegiance to his party.

But quickly added that it is only 400 people in the group have voter’s card and they are all from the Kanifing Municipality.

The mass defection comes barely 18 months to 2021 presidential elections, which is highly attracting attention among Gambians both home and abroad as the country has more than a dozen political parties in preparation to contest in the 2021 presidential race.

Momodou MC Cham Jnr, who spoke to The Voice exclusively, said “The GDC leader Honorable Mamma Kandeh yesterday (Thursday) received at Baobab Holiday Resort, over 2000 young people from the ‘Barrow for five years’ camp who had switched allegiance to the GDC.”

“The GDC party leader welcomed them and praised the young people for their courage. But among the 2000 young people, 400 of them are having voters’ cards and they are all from KMC,” he added.

He said Mamma Kandeh, urged the youths of the country not to allow politics to divide them.

He however said, Kandeh lashed out at the government that “It is disheartening that Barrow and his people despite witnessed the entire struggle under Jammeh they have not learnt anything meaningful.”
