WAG, NCAC introduce Covid-19 Short Story Competition

The Writers Association of The Gambia (WAG) in partnership with the National Centre for Arts and Culture (NCAC) has introduced its organized Covid-19 Short Story Competition for 2020 amid of the coronavirus pandemic.

The organized Covid-19 Short Story Competition is part of the National Centre for Arts and Culture’s efforts to support the development of the creative industries amid of the coronavirus pandemic especially now that the State of Public Health Emergency is still on.

According to the organizers, the competition aim is to enable young people to respond to the Covid-19 through short stories to raise public awareness about the fast spreading virus.

The short story competition rolled-out by the organizers is tagged with takeaway cash prizes. The overall winner will win D3000 Cash Prize, First Runner-up will stand to win D1500 and the Second Runner-up will have D1000 Cash Prize.

Organizers noted that the Prizes extend the NCAC’s overall mission to archive the wealth of Gambian literary production from getting lost in the chaos of the global crisis of Covid-19.

More so, it will help the young people, storytellers, aspiring writers, to stay informed about global trends in the Gambian literary scene, and to ensure that the significance of these works transcends the final moment of their publications in an anthology book.

As per the eligibility rule for the competition, it is open to anyone between the aged of 12 to 30 years who writes short story in English.

The deadline for the submission of story by every applicant is 12th May, 2020 while all submissions should be sent via email to modoulaminsowe1@hotmail.com and strictly on the topic – Impact of Covid-19 and should not beyond 1000 words, maximum.
