The National Assembly Member for Niamina East has advised the vice president of The Gambia to apologise to The Gambia youth and immediately withdraw her remarks which she made in regards of labour work.

Dr Isatou Touray over the weekend blamed youth for not taking up employment opportunities like loading and offloading of food items meant for distribution to different households in The Gambia as government relief package in this situation of Covid-19.

The uploading and offloading of the food items was described by the VP as a dignified and great job opportunity for the young people, a statement that did not go well with the youth of the country.

Following the statement, hundreds of Gambians expressed disappointment in Dr Touray’s utterance as ‘undiplomatic and indecent’ as they want her to withdraw her statement without further delay.

Honorable Omar Ceesay, said: “comments made by the Vice President of the country has shown the lack of clear government policies in term of providing decent job opportunities to the youths of the country. Because government should be ready to develop the life skill capacity of young people in order to engage in meaningful and productive work to contribute to the economic sector of the country.”

He added that “the office of the Vice President is occupying is just an honor and privilege; she is not the most competent person to occupy that position. If you are given all privileges and opportunity to occupy political space as a citizen you must not say things that will at the end of the day undermine the will of the people.”

He lamented that it is unfortunate for the second in command of the whole country to say loading and offloading of bags of rice, sugar and oil is a job for your people.

He further stressed that VP Touray must come and apologize to the people of this country most especially the young people.
