CSOs Approves Draft Term of Reference on Human Rights

Civil Society Organizations in partnership with National Human Right Commission have adopted the draft Term of Reference on human rights at the forum held in Bakau.

CSO aims to contribute in monitoring the implementation of national legislations, regional human right legal instrument and to foster closer collaboration between civil society organizations in The Gambia.

Emmanuel Joof, chairperson of NHRC said: “As a bridge between the civil society, government and the general public at large, it is important that we coordinate the work of civil society and that is what we are doing.”

He said National Human Right Commission is creating the medium and the secretariat premises to make sure that civil society come together and have a very effective dialogue while they will be meeting regularly.

According to him, the objective is to sensitize CSOs about works of the National Human Right Commission as well as the important role the civil society plays in promotion and protection of human right and how they can work together as civil society.

Nfarmara Jawneh Interim President said: “like the name suggests CSOs platform is a platform that civil society can use to exchange ideas and discuss issue affecting us.”

He described the summit as an opportunity for them saying it will help to bring them together in addressing issues.

He noted that the benefit of the platform has already started bearing fruits for the fact that is not only the relationship among the CSOs and NHRC but the relationship among them as members.
