A National Peace Award was yesterday conferred on Former President Yahaya AJJ Jammeh by Concern Gambians Social Welfare Association in the Diaspora.

The award ceremony witnessed by executive members of the APRC party and members of the association took place at the party’s bureau in Manjai Kunda.

Speaking at the presentation of the award, the secretary general of the association, Pa Modou Jarra said the former president Jammeh was not mistakenly chosen to be awarded with the National Peace award. But “because of his bravery to allow peace in the country after he agreed to phone and give leadership guidance to the current president when he already conceded defeat and also his continuity in advocating for peace and stability to his party members as he’s in exile in Equatorial Guinea.”

“Gambians has to recognized and accept those who have sacrificed to allow peace reign in the country,” while he reiterated that the award also recognised him for stepping down and release leadership mantle after accepting defeat during the 2016 elections

In receiving the award, the interim leader of the APRC party Fabakary Tombong Jatta said the conferment of the National Peace Award to former President Jammeh has shown the real achievements and sacrifices he has made to let peace remains in the country. He said the APRC party will never fear or relent in making sure that the development aspirations of the Gambia are attained.

“The award has really shown how former President Jammeh was a peace-loving man, his acceptance to release power after the country was bit running into civil unrest shows quality of peace he wishes for his nation,” he said.
