Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) has asked President Barrow to return to Banjul and convene an emergency cabinet meeting in order to look for measures of preventing the country from the deadly Coronavirus which already discovered in the neighboring country, Senegal.

On Monday, Senegal emerged fourth African countries to confirm the virus case which sparked fear in The Gambia.

According to a statement signed by the GDC party leader Mamma Kandeh he advised President Barrow to return to Banjul.

The statement read: “the government must take a giant step towards securing all entry points to The Gambia and monitor the movement of people in and outside the country. The COVID 19 corona virus is deadly and an enemy to all countries, it is spreading so fast around the world and without any cure as at now.”

“So, it is important for the government to cut short of their trip in the provincial Gambia to immediately organize an emergency cabinet concerning the alarming fears of the virus,” the statement added.

Leader Kandeh in the statement urged for vigilance “in our work as a nation to assist authorities in their course to protect our country from the corona virus infection. Everyone has to work together including the government to make sure the Gambia and her borders are safe from the deadly virus.”

In addition, implication of such virus to the Gambia will not only cause massive fear among people but also within a week or so can have potential of damaging the economy of the country including tourism.

The statement concluded that The Gambia is a country so vulnerable mainly due to its social and economic situation.
