The National Assembly Member for Basse constituency has stated that no country can achieve a peaceful society without the practice of a good religious ethics.

Honorable Muhammed Magassy made this statement over the weekend in an exclusive interview with The Voice following the laying of foundation stone of Imam Al-Bukhari College of Islam and Prophetic Sunnah Studies in Jambajelly, Kombo South.

“If we want to build a peaceful society as a nation the exercise of religious ethics should serve as primary function to every citizen be it Muslim or Christian. And that cannot be achieved without promoting a good religious knowledge in our educational system,” he said.

He added that the promotion and access to education is a primary duty to the government, and the country’s education policy has clearly emphasized the right of every Gambian child to receive education without any hindrance.

He went on saying “I can tell you that the current government policy on education has made it a law for every child in the country to receive education without any hindrance of discrimination”

“But also in order to attain peace and stability our educational system should encourage religious morals in learning institutions. Because if you lack ethics in every discipline your chance of creating peace will be minimal,” he said.

According to him the government of The Gambia has since the inception of the coalition made a tremendous achievement in the area of education policy citing the massive construction of schools across the country by the MRC Holland foundation.

“Education is the only tool to widen the general welfare of a person and this is why government is concern by creating space for the promotion of education,” he concluded.
