Gambia Women’s Gears Up For WAFU Tournament in Freetown

Barely two weeks to the forthcoming WAFU Women’s tournament in Freetown, Sierra Leone is the Gambia winding its preparation ahead of the kick off in February 2020.
The Gambia Women’s Scorpions are pitted in Group B with familiar opponents Guinea Bissau, Liberia and Mali.

The team has been on regular training at the National Technical Training Centre in Yundum, said the head coach Mariama Sowe.

“We are going all out to fight for a place to the Semi-final and to make a difference. We’ve had matches with Bissau and Liberia which mostly ended in our favour and we hope the same would happen again during the tournament”.

Sowe however acknowledged the strong pedigree of opponents Mali describing the former French colony as a Football nation and a difficult opponent.

“We will focus on the positives and use every opportunity”, she added.
The Interior FC Coach said she is pleased with the determination and courage of the girls noting that “we are all motivated by the Federation and they give us the support needed and there are no injury worries with any of the girls at the moment”

She urged the public to continue their prayers and support to the Women’s National Team while she also assured the public of the team’s determination for a successful tournament.

The WAFU tournament is set to kick off from February 25 to 7th March 2020 in the cities of Bo and Makeni.
