Gunjur councilor calls for scrutiny on Golden Lead factory

A Gunjur ward councilor has called for scrutiny on Golden Lead fishing factory after the company was alleged of forgery of health operational certificate.

Speaking Momodou Charreh Gibba, in an exclusive interview said: “there have been a lot of issues such as demonstrations and court cases with a host of environmentalists.

The environmentalists have their own reasons of evidence on environmental degradation and the destruction of their natural resources. The recent allegation on the company of presenting a forged health operational certificate to allow them operate has shown illegal the company existing and posing threat to our environment.”

“We should not allow as people of the same country to put the development of our country into jeopardy. I said this because the alleged forged health operational certificate obtained the Golden Lead fish meal factory to allow operate was given by a Gambia food inspector who lives in China since 2016. So, I think authorities responsible have to explain the issue for clarification,” he added.

According to him, the destruction of the fishmeal factories along the coastlines coupled with the constant release of odor has always create a very uncomfortable environment for people to stay adding that as the ward councilor of the area the development and health concern of the people is his concern.

“We cannot sit and fold our hands to see the destruction of the environment carried a company which in facts have no proper health operation documents to do business, he said.

The company in the recent months was written a letter from the National Food and Safety quality authority (NFSQA) indicating their illegal operation as a fishmeal processing company that has not rightfully obtained any operational health certificate to operate as a company.
