Tears roll as hundreds gather to pay tribute to Demba Sowe

A sombre mood it was at the National Assembly on Friday in Banjul as hundreds of people including lawmakers and politicians of vice president and GDC leader gathered to pay their last respect to the late Demba Sowe.

Hon Sowe was the National Assembly Member for Niamina West and died on 24 January in Casablanca, Kingdom of Morocco while on business trip. He was 40 years old and, he is blessed with 3 wives and 6 children of whom are 4 boys and 2 girls.

Tears began to roll on cheeks of friends and love ones including his family members as police escorted his casket out of the national assembly chamber for his home village of Nana. The national flag was put over Mr Sowe’s casket as lawmaker laid in-state.

Speaking at the grieve ceremony on Friday, vice president Dr Isatou Touray described Sowe as an exceptional parliamentarian who was proud to represent his consequence and never give up.

Speaker of the house Mariam Jack-Denton said: “late Hon. Demba Sow serve the Gambia and this very accosting gathering   immensely with diligent and respect to the people of Niamina and he will be greatly miss and my eyes are still stock on that desk Niamina West were he use to sit.” She extended the house condolences to the family of Demba Sowe.

Mr Yerro Jallow a friend of decease described Sowe’s death as “a lost to all Gambian especial his family members, GDC, and the people of Niamina West.”

Hon Sowe was not only the man of the people but the man for the people and truth democratic who succeeded in unifying the people of Niamina West regardless of their political affiliation, I pray to Allah to grant him Paradis, he said
