Hundreds on Wednesday gathered around Kanifing Magistrates’ Court to show solidarity to remanded Three Years Jotna executive.
The crowd were chanting “we need Justice’, ‘Free our Leaders, stop witch-hunting, Adama Barrow should honour his promise and step down”
Speaking to Kaddy Manneh, a native of Brikama said: “am here to show solidarity with my colleagues, we are all in this so I cannot seat at home while my colleagues are in the hand of the state. We went out to demand our rights as citizens and so unfortunately the police threw tire gas on us even before we start our protest in violation of our rights.”
She blamed President Adama Barrow for the trouble that emanates from the protest, arguing that if President Barrow has honoured the agreement Gambia would not have reach this far.
“We are here to show solidarity and demand for justice for Abdou Njie and all those who appeared at the court. They haven’t done anything that will warrant their incarceration and we are asking the court to throw this matter out,” said Mustapha Njie, a Tallinding based activist.
According to him, he was a victim of Police brutality that supersedes the 26th January, protest, disclosing that he was arrested and detained at the Anti-Crime Headquarters at Bijilo. Njie revealed that he and seventy others were detained in one cell where they sleep and urine, adding that most of his colleagues were charged for arson, riot, felony and demolition of properties, charges that they all denied.
“I don’t mind whether they allow us to enter in the courthouse or not. We will stand under this burning sun and show our solidarity and loyalty to our leaders. We are not moved as far as this issue is concern and all we want to see is to see justice been served,’ he said.
