NFTR Gambia chapter to organize Stakeholders-Media forum on taxation

The Network of Financial and Tax Reporters (NFTR) The Gambia chapter a newly launched association out to promote, educate, and sensitizing the general public on the essence of voluntary tax compliance is expected to host its 3rd media Engagement, forum between the stakeholders, Tax Authority, and the media.

The objective of this forum that is expected to take place on the 2nd November will bring all the actors ranging from the Gambian Bankers Association, the private sector, stakeholders, taxpayers, Tax Authority, university  students and the media with the view to discuss about the importance of tax payment to government and its impact, in our society.

Organised by the Network of financial and Tax Reporters (NFTR) The Gambia chapter, with technical support from the Gambia Revenue Authority.

Speaking ahead of the forum the president of the NFTR Gambia chapter Mr. Abdoulie Nyockeh said it was deem necessary by the network to organize this kind of forum to educate and sensitize people on their tax obligation.

He explained that  this forum aim to bring twenty financial and tax reporters, ten business community , five tax authority , five financial institution , and five from the private sector and five from government representative.

According to him, the objective of the NFTR Gambia chapter is to ensure that there is transparence and accountability on tax payment between the government, private sector and the community.

He recalled that NFTR Gambia chapter was recently formed by journalists reporting on business, financial and tax matters. It also comprises members from all media outlets drawn from the print and electronic media in the Gambia.

Mr. Nyockeh, added that among the objective of the network is to ensure that journalists are well equipped with the requisite skill and knowledge to report on financial matters, tax administration and taxation laws in order to create awareness on the importance of tax related matters, ensure compliance, and as well impress on the relevant authorities the importance of taxpayers getting value for their money.
