Momodou Bah, president of The Pro-Gambia Association has called for national dialogue among political parties, civil society organisations on the coalition’s agreement of a three-year transitional period.

“President Adama Barrow, headed a coalition comprised of seven political parties including an independent candidate agreed to a three-year transitional period, but 1997 Constitution provides five years mandate for president.

However, during the campaign Barrow promised to honour the agreement, but recently during a meeting in Brikama President Barrow announced that he will be in office for five years because he is back by the Constitution ‘whether one like it or not,” he said.

A group of concern Gambians called ‘Three years Jotna’ threaten to hold a peaceful protest demand for him to step down in December as promised during campaigns.

On Monday, during a press conference at Sinchu Balliya Bah, urged President Adama Barrow to act in the best interest of the country ahead of December.

He explained that Pro-Gambia Association is a youth lead association that promotes peace and stability believing that the price for peace is God’s Mercy.

Bah warned Barrow that the security of each person residing in The Gambia is in his hands and he should ensure everybody in the country is safe.

According to him, as an association they are neither advocating for or discouraging 3 years, nor 5 years, but to maintain the peace and stability of the country.

He pointed out that their major concern is other people with intentions waiting for the situation to cause chaos in the country, giving an example of Libya were terrorists came in and hold the country hostage and kidnapped the revolution with so many people losing their lives.

“There is something at stake and we need to know that is dangerous for the country, we are not discouraging people from demonstrating but appealing to them to look for possible dialogue,”

He said they will engage political parties, political stakeholders, Civil Society Organisations and embark on fact finding missions to create an atmosphere of peace and stability in the country.

“We are driven by the love for our country and will fight to maintain the peace and stability of our country, and I call on all to come together and dialogue.

Bah assured that they will work with President Barrow and all relevant stakeholders to do what is in the best interest of the country as well as maintain peace in The Gambia.
