The Essau Ward Councilor has applauded the National Councilor for Civic Education (NCCE) for choosing the theme: “Strengthening Human Rights and Good Government in The Gambia”.

Kebba Jallow was speaking on Wednesday at Essau village in Lower Niumi District of North Bank Region during the start of the 2nd phased of the NCCE sensitization on Democracy, Political Pluralism, Tolerance and Civic Rights and Duties.

The synergy is funded by United Nation Democracy Fund (UNDEF) through the efforts of TANGO while NCCE is implementing the country wide community sensitization.

According to Councilor Jallow, the theme for the sensitization is timely in the country while challenging the women folk in his Ward and Lower Niumi District in general to partake in the democratic process in The Gambia.

“If we want democracy at work in the country, we as Gambians need to put aside our political differences, respect each other’s views, respect the law of the land and be good architect to each other’s future,” Jallow advised Lower Niumi communities.

He said democracy is not about altering foul words and made hate speech against each other but instead it is about how to move the country into a right direction that will improve the lives of the citizenry.

Abdou Corr from Fass Njaga Choi described the sensitization as worthy noting that as Gambians,  they should distance themselves from hate speeches which he said will not bring development and peace in the country.

Mr. Choi called on Government to empower NCCE and all those institutions whose mandate is to enlighten Gambians about their civic duties, democracy and Good Governance.

Dodou Njie from Essau called on the communities of Lower Niumi to change their attitude towards nation building stressing that if our attitudes are not change it would deter the development of the country of any nature.

Lower Niumi Chief, Alhaji Fabakary Nana Sonko, Fatou O. Jallow, Momodou Lamin Jammeh and Mustapha Jallow both commended NCCE, TANGO and UNDEF for organizing outreach community sensitization in their area.
