Nominated Member Gassama Vows to Serve National Interest

The newly nominated member for the National Assembly has vowed to serve the national interest before the individual interest for the betterment of the country.

Hon Foday Gassama who was addressing member of the press shortly after his swear-in ceremony at the National Assembly Chamber in Banjul on Monday iterated that the National assembly is among the three organs of the government which read the law of the land and amend the Constitution for the best interest of the country. And the law makers, he said, have a very vital role to play in the society particularly when it comes to the national responsibility.

The new Honorable said his nomination was based on the trust and confidence the President of The Gambia has in him and that being the case he is going to deliver as expected from him as a member of the parliament.

He commented on former nominated member, Ya Kumba Jaiteh’s revocation that the President who had nominated her had the right to revoke her nomination as it stipulated in the Constitution and also Ya Kumba Jaiteh has the right to take the legal action against the President as she did, though “the ruling was not in her favour,” he noted.

“I am a very strong member of the United Democratic Party (UDP) and I was arrested and jailed in 14th February, 2014 for exercised my political rights at the Madiniana Village,” he said.

Mariam Jack-Denton, Speaker of the National Assembly welcomed him to the National Assemble and him of members’ support in carrying out his duties in the assembly.
