MAJaC Elects New Student Executive

Media Academy for Journalism and Communication (MAJaC) Saturday elected its new student executive body, who would steer the affairs of the Union for a period of one year.

MAJaC students thronged the school campus in their red and grey T-Shirts in observing the election –also graced by representatives from the University of The Gambia Student Union, The Gambia College Press Club and Gambia Press Union.

Members of the new MAJaC student executive include- Mustapha Ceesay, President of the Union, Kaddy Cham, Vice President, Muhammed S. Bah, Secretary General, Sally Jeng, Assistant Secretary General, Adama Makasuba, Minister of Education and Research, Mariama Cham, Minister of Information, Binta Bah, Minister of Finance, Mammy Saidykhan, Minister of Welfare and Curricular Activity, and Banna Sabally, Auditor.

Meanwhile, Mustapha Ceesay –newly elected president of the Student Union casted 42 votes out of 102 votes while his contender-Juldeh Njie casted 40 votes, leaving other positions unopposed.

Sang Mendy, managing director of Media Academy for Journalism and Communication described the election as very important in the calendar of the school and urged students to be more committed to their education and developing the school.

“The school would be incomplete without a student Union. In you I see media owners, in you I see people who would bring change in the media, and in you I see people who would challenge media owners for change,” he said.

Representing The Gambia Press Union, Pa Modou Faal, expressed delight to MAJaC for its commitment to bringing change in Gambian media fraternity, and urged the new executive to fulfill the trust students have in them.

He described the election as a test for leadership while commended the administration of MAJaC and the students for coming up with a student body.

Mr. Faal also urged students of the school to take their studies very seriously, adding that the school has talented youngsters’ whom could be productive media practitioners in the country in future
