Jatta Punches Gov’t Over Deportation

The leader of Alliance for Patriotic Re-orientation and Construction (APRC) party strongly condemned the Adama Barrow- led administration for the deportation of Gambian youths from Europe and recent deportation from the United Stated of America.

Hon. Fabakary Tombong Jatta, leader of APRC disclosed that recently a special flight -Germania Airline from the Federal Republic of Germany landed at the Banjul International Airport with 15 Gambian deportees on board.

He added that government spokesperson Ebrima Sankareh also confirmed that there were some 46 Nigerians on that aircraft and the Gambians wereby immigration officials and Nigerian preceded to their country.

The former majority leader of the national assembly stated that the deportation of Gambians from the USA is a clear indication that the coalition government signed the deportation transaction with USA.

He noted that government denied signing deportation agreement while it is now confirm in the Diaspora that government signed the documents.

He recalled that sometime in September 2017 there was a negotiation about the repatriation issue and in the same year the coalition government announced that the USA government has lifted the traveled ban for Gambia officials to travel to the USA which was imposed on Yahya Jammeh’s officials.

He said that announcement was well welcomed, but he urged Gambians to find out the reason for banning Jammeh and his officials, noting that within a short period the State Department  announced that Gambia government have agreed for the deportation of Gambians back to their country.

Jatta disclosed that the US government approached the APRC government regarding the deportation of Gambians but former President Yahya Jammeh turned their requested down, stressing  that this  led  to the travel ban  on APRC government officials.

The veteran politician told news men that Gambians in the Diaspora expressed regret for fighting the former government, and they are apologizing for their roles to end Jammeh’s administration.

He called on the government to protect the citizens and not to compromise with the welfare of anyone, adding that flight that land at the airport Gambians deportees are on board.
