FTJ Lambasts Gov’t of not Praising APRC on Senegambia Bridge

By Adama Makasuba

Fabakary Tombong Jatta, the Interim Leader of Opposition APRC has lambasted the Administration of President Adama Barrow over what he called ‘government couldn’t even thank APRC for the Senegambia Bridge.’

Mr. Jatta made the remarks during his speech on air at the West Coast Radio on Tuesday morning, adding that the Senegambia Bridge was started in 2014 under Jammeh’s 22 year rule

“Remember as I said the government couldn’t even thank former president Yahya Jammeh and the APRC for the Trans-Gambia Bridge because it started in 2014.The Laminkoto Passamas Road was funded by five loan agreements we ratified. The contractors were identified by the APRC and the work started with the APRC when all the funds were available,” he said.

Jatta, who was a majority leader at the National Assembly under Ex-president Yahya Jammeh, added that the Kunta-Kinteh Ferry and Sukuta -Jambajelly Roads were both contracted and funded by the APRC regime.

He then added that: “We have agreed that they were completed during their time or during their time the works were still ongoing but they cannot take the credit. These were what exactly happened with the Ferry and the Sukuta -Jambajelly Road. These were roads which we funded.”

According to him, the power generating from the Senegalese Power Company (Senelec) is a waste of resource as he said ‘it cannot be sustained.’

“We are paying millions of dalasi per month on this and we cannot sustain it. We cannot sustain it- those are temporal measures we should learn. Taken electricity direct from Senegal for me is a challenge,” he said.

He then cited that the prices of commodities are hiking and that Gambians cannot afford medication due to shortage of it at the hospitals.
