GDC Kandeh Says “No to tribalism”

Mama Kandeh, secretary general and leader of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) has vowed that his party will say “no tribalism” and champion peace in The Gambia and envisaged to have a nation that enjoys high standards of effective governance.

Addressing his party supporters on Sunday in Basse Upper River Region at the party’s first nation congress, Mr Kandeh recalled  that the party  was registered on the 11th of May 2016 through the existing electoral of the Independent Electoral Commission, given birth to a Political dispensation in the country.

Kandeh told delegates that “the party was built to foster the culture of respect, fundamental human rights and freedom with a highly skilled and motivated workforce.

He also said the GDC   focus on strong democratic foundation that robust popular and multiparty contest for power, and enable the people to have and make choice of their leadership by comparing policies and programs and creating a situation where generations of Gambians could be able to see multiple successions.

He  pointed out that  the amendment of the electoral law was done purposely to discourage new Political parties, especially the GDC for registering, adding  that the registration fee for Political parties has been increased from D10,000 to D1million and the number of registered voter signatories also increased from 5,000 to 10,000.

According to him, the GDC is a social democratic party that believes the humanitarian treatment of all people regardless of background.

He said that the President is a servant of the people, but not a Leader, thus he called on those handling the position be truthful and desist from fiction.

Meanwhile, Mama Kandeh was re-elected as party leader while Sarjo Bojang was elected as deputy party leader, Dr. Demba Sabally national chairman, Karimo Manneh deputy national chairman and Salifu Puye as party campaign manager.
